Find the Right Path to Healing

Recovery isn’t a one-size-fits-all journey.
Some people need intensive, daily support to lay a strong foundation, while others are ready to balance treatment with work, school, or family life. At Bold Steps Massachusetts, we offer multiple levels of care so you can get the right kind of help — at the right time.

Our programs are built on curriculum-based groups, specialized therapies, and holistic practices that heal both mind and body. Whether you’re seeking treatment for substance use, mental health concerns, or both, we’ll help you create a plan that fits your life.

Levels of Care at Bold Steps

Every level of care plays a unique role in the recovery process.
Here’s how each program helps clients at different stages of healing:

Day Treatment (Partial Hospitalization Program - PHP)

“A full-day structured program that helps people build a strong foundation in recovery.”

Day Treatment is our most intensive level of care, ideal for those who need significant support after detox or during a crisis.
Clients spend most of the day at our facility, participating in therapy, skills groups, and holistic practices designed to address both symptoms and root causes of addiction or mental health conditions.

  • Focus: Building stability and developing healthy coping skills.
  • Average Duration: 4–6 weeks, depending on individual progress.
  • Structure: 5–6 hours per day, 5 days per week.
  • Who You’ll Be With: Counselors, therapists, peers, and sometimes family members in educational sessions.

Half Day Treatment (Intensive Outpatient Program - IOP)

“A moderate level of care for people balancing recovery with daily responsibilities.”

Our Half Day Treatment is designed for individuals ready to step down from full-day treatment or for those who need more structure than standard outpatient care.
This program provides therapy and group sessions several days a week, giving you the tools to stay on track while maintaining work, school, or family commitments.

  • Focus: Transition and skill reinforcement.
  • Average Duration: 6–8 weeks, depending on needs.
  • Structure: 3–4 hours per day, 3–5 days per week.
  • Who You’ll Be With: Small peer groups, licensed counselors, and supportive staff.

Outpatient Treatment

“Ongoing care to maintain progress and prevent relapse.”

Outpatient treatment is the least intensive level of care, providing continued therapy and support as you return to daily life.
It’s ideal for people who have completed higher levels of treatment and want to stay connected while maintaining independence.

  • Focus: Maintenance, relapse prevention, and community connection.
  • Average Duration: Variable — based on personal goals and progress.
  • Structure: 1–3 therapy sessions per week.
  • Who You’ll Be With: Your individual therapist and, occasionally, group sessions or alumni programs.

Behavioral Health by the Numbers

The need for accessible, high-quality behavioral health care has never been greater — both in Massachusetts and across the country.

Every quarter, about 60,000–70,000 hospital discharges in Massachusetts involve a behavioral health condition. That means tens of thousands of people are cycling through hospitals every few months because mental health or substance use isn’t being managed in outpatient settings.

These numbers make one thing clear: behavioral health programs save lives.
With the right level of care and a supportive community, recovery isn’t just possible — it’s sustainable.

  • Curriculum-Based Groups: Structured lessons that build knowledge and skills in a step-by-step format.
  • Specialized Therapies: Including trauma therapy, DBT, CBT, EMDR, and more.
  • Holistic Healing Practices: Yoga, mindfulness, and wellness activities that support mind-body balance.

Who You’ll Meet Along the Way

Recovery isn’t something you do alone.
During treatment, you’ll be surrounded by a supportive network of:

  • Licensed therapists and counselors
  • Peers who understand what you’re going through
  • Medical professionals (during detox or MAT care)
  • Family members involved in education and support sessions
  • Alumni who share hope and encouragement from their own recovery journeys

This sense of community and accountability helps create a safe space for growth and lasting change.

Your Commitment: What to Expect

The time you spend in treatment depends on your level of care and personal goals.
Here’s what a typical week might look like:

  • Day Treatment: Monday–Friday, full-day sessions including therapy, group work, and holistic activities.
  • Night Treatment: 3–5 days per week, with sessions lasting a half-day each.
  • Outpatient Treatment: 1–3 scheduled appointments per week, plus optional alumni meetings or community events.
